11:37 pm - Today I:
woke up about 9 o'clock in the morning, I gave myself a stretch - aah, my mornin' yawn and
hit up the equipment room at 10 am with these three other folks: there was Rob, Ha Ni and Glenn
nothing much to do, but it's all good, cause that's expected
I hear that later in the year is when that shit gets hectic
left at noon for Calc, I'm feeling lucky, class looks ducky
quick quiz, then notes on limits; laptop beats to keep it funky

Did some things that needed doing in the break that I had
an insurance waiver, letters and a birthday card for Dad
Media Studio at six, man, this class is off the hook!
required listening is Aphex Twin with Burroughs in the textbook

Finally received an e-mail from Capoiera and I was amped,
I've had the desire for a while but I never got the chance
so I got down with the ginga, left early pouring sweat
Live Sound beckons, pass the sign-up, do three shows then I'm a vet
finally, I headed back in the direction of my dorm
for a shower and some food, 1st floor was cooking up a storm!

Now my bed is calling, and I'm feeling like a fool
I spent the last half-hour writing rhymes about my school.

So, ok, things are better. I just was having a bad day on the previous entries.

Yesterday was fun - I jammed with this dude Gabe - graduate student at RPI, into Sonic Youth and shit. Good guitarist. Rhythm mostly, which works out well with my tendency to play lead. We decided to work on some songs for the open mic next week, which I already plan on playing at (gonna play Aslan's rock opera, Who's Got The Crack, and Blue in the Face by Alkaline Trio...should be very risque and awesome!)

Then I went on a cruise down the Hudson, with the rest of the Humanities and Social Sciences kids. It was cool - hung out with these freshmen that live in the bottom of my hall; crazy bastards, lots of fun! Diablo II is eating my brain, so I played that a bit when we got back, and then came downstairs and ate from this giant tin of chicken caesar salad that the aforementioned crazy freshmen made after making the trek to Price Chopper for supplies.

Oh yeah, and my first day of work study was today. I'm working down in the Equipment Room in West Hall, which is the building for the electronic arts kids. It seems pretty chill - lots of down time to work on homework, etc, in between checking out and returning gear. I don't get to repair anything, which I would like to learn to do, but oh well.

Gonna go eat! Yeah! Later.

Plus, there's something wrong with my beloved laptop - it is crashing HARDCORE. We're talking "System Failure", and kernel panics up the wazoo. Shitty.

Dammit, everyone here is the same. They're all stuck in their little shell, afraid to go outside of it, or just comfortable inside of it, but they lash out at people who are different. Conformity rules, because nobody gives anyone a chance to try for something else.

The last two days have been really disappointing - the lack of talent at the open mic (altho, it *was* an open mic. Most people with talent aren't at those) and today, at the sound training, people were just...not cool. Boring. Nobody is unique. And there was this shitty jam session, that just made me feel really bad. Not connecting with people at all.

Classes are awesome, taught by brilliant people who introduce me to old and new music that expands my mind. Just that almost all of the students I've met are uninteresting. I miss Seattle, and I miss the band (like CRAZY!).

Things will look up.

Shit, son. Blue Scholars are so dope! Just got the re-release album and a t-shirt in the mail today...not listening to shitty quality mp3s anymore, and the bass sounds fat, tracks are so much deeper. Gotta support that shit.

RPI is dope - finding the people that I vibe with, enjoying the hell out of my assignments so far. Been wandering around with a portable recorder, big ol' boom pole, and a stereo mic, recording air conditioners, outside ambience, people talking at lunch, piano, etc. cause my assignment is to create an "audio portrait" of my environment. Calc is still kicking my ass, but it's aight - tutoring starts tomorrow.

Have a roommate now! His name is Patrick - he's from Tulane, which is in New Orleans - RPI took on 100 students from the area for at least a semester, giving them all a free ride for everything. He's a cool kid. Getting to know him.

Gonna sleep soon! Peace!

Ugh. The dining hall is closed from 8-10:30 at night...another hour and a half to go...stupid calculus. Fuck, I'm not even doing calculus, I'm doing trig review in the appendix of the calc book. Dammit.

Really, I'm just bitching - it's not that bad, just time-consuming. I keep taking forever to figure out exactly how I'm supposed to be solving these problems, and then once I realize what method I'm supposed to use, it's easy.

6:15 pm - Osiris, what has happened to your nose?
I'm at RPI, in upstate New York. Classes start tomorrow.

This week has been full of activities designed to break the ice and get us acquainted with each other, which worked pretty well. I met a whole bunch of people, but it's been slightly weird for me, because I'm two years older than they are. Luckily, the upperclassmen have been arriving this weekend, so I've met some people closer to my age. Everyone here is pretty rad, tho.

There's just something very strange about being away from people that I've known for years. I realize that even though I met new people back in Seattle, there was always some overlap - I always had old friends mixed with the new. Here, I don't have that luxury. I don't really feel like I've connected with anyone yet, although granted, it's only been a week. Hopefully there'll be people with similar interests in my classes.

Which isn't to say that I haven't been having fun - I have! It's been really sunny, and I've been meeting loads of people, playing frisbee, playing hackysack with my RA, wandering about campus putting up stickers that say "Trapped in sticker factory - send help!" and generally enjoying the weather. Today is just gray and rainy, though, so I've been inside most of the day, working on tracks after somehow getting Reason to work.

I started a blog, too: Tales From The Punchbowl.

I miss The Symptoms.

12:15 am - pics!
Hey y'all -
my trip was AWESOME! Me and Emily hung out with her friends at a crazy party, had a sleepover, Emily played a show, we went and spent two nights at her friend Sam's house, and generally kicked it old-school.

Then, Rensselaer orientation was rad, cause I got a lot of personalized attention - being the only EMAC student at the transfer orientation, and also being the only person who went on a campus tour - three counselors and me. So I made friends with a lot of the students who were helping with orientation.

I'm really stoked to go there now! I registered for classes & I can use a Mac instead of going with their PC mobile computing program, which means I get a Powerbook soon! HOT DAMN!

It's good to be back...but I miss Emily.

Pictures from the trip! )

I need a shower. And sleep. Peace!

Yo - leaving in a few hours for Maine! To see Emily!

And, of course, to visit Rensselaer. Orientation, you know. Important.

I gots my music - just uploaded The Symptoms traxx to my iPod, as well as Pinback's "Summer In Abaddon" album, which is FUCKING AWESOME! Also, I have a whole buttload of Buddhist podcasts, cause podcasting is the SHIT! And free! And cause I'm interested in Buddhism, of course.

Ermmm, anyway, yes. I'll be back next Wednesday, hopefully in time to see the Corrosion of Conformity/Alabama Thunderpussy show at Neumo's (Wes! You and me and Aaron should be there!).

In case you're curious, I leave for school for good on August 23rd. If you wanna chill before I go, hit me up! 206.852.5573.

Later, y'all.

5:44 pm - Response to Bush's address.
Ugh. That was a good speech. And by good, I mean it was stirring, convincing propaganda.

Was it just me, or did everything Bush said about the terrorists seem like commentary about the United States? I had to laugh out loud at one point, when he said "The terrorists are brutal. But they are no match for the United States." Got that right! We're killing civilians over there! We're destroying homes, cutting people off from food, water, and electricity that was plentiful and readily available before we got involved. Check out Dahr Jamail's website for more info.

We have GOT to get out of Iraq.
